You will avoid many of the mistakes business owners make.
You will accomplish more than you would on your own.
You will achieve your goals more quickly.
You will have a collaboration partner that doesn’t share in your profits.
You’ll learn strategies to draw business directly to you.
When you hire a consultant, you want that person to figure out the problem and provide the answers for fixing the problem. When you hire a coach, you want that person to guide you on how to fix the problem. Coaching and consulting are very different and sometimes you need both. I do both.
A business consultant can help you:
- understand the basics of business planning and marketing
- learn business and marketing skills
- find ways to keep track of and follow up on your business success
- uncover and solve problem areas you either can’t see or don’t have time to find
No. Consultants are hired based on their expertise. They are expected to diagnose problems, then prescribe and sometimes implement solutions. Coaching, however, assumes that you can develop your own solutions … the coach is only there to guide, assist, and help you to develop your own plan and your own actions to take.
No. A mentor is an expert who teaches wisdom based on his own experiences. Mentoring can include advice, counselling, and coaching, but the coaching process is not about advice or advice. Instead, coaching is more specific to help you set and achieve your own goals.
No. Training requires a linear, one-way learning path that complies with a set curriculum. Coaching, on the other hand, is non-linear; it is a two-way partnership and does not start with a given curriculum.
You recognize the importance of having a reliable partner to empower you to get where you want to go. A good coach will see through the excuses that you make and hold you accountable. They see how you limit yourself by only doing the minimum. They skillfully challenge and motivate you beyond your comfort zone to do more. A coach does this by helping you see your blind spots and then use these insights as growth opportunities to help you develop and become the person you want to be and achieve the things that are important to you.
The length of a coaching partnership varies depending on the individual’s or team’s needs and preferences. For certain types of focused coaching, 3 to 6 months of working with a coach may work. For other types of coaching, people may find it beneficial to work with a coach for 1-3 years. Factors that may impact the length of time include the types of goals, the ways individuals or teams like to work, the frequency of coaching meetings, and financial resources available to support coaching.
